Dr. Ray DuBois , M.D., Ph.D. Dr. DuBois is a world-renowned physician-scientist who has devoted his career to understanding the linkages between inflammation and cancer, particularly colon cancer. He assumed his new role as Executive Director of the Biodesign Institute in December of 2012, coming by way of Houston as provost of the prestigious M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University has formed nearly 200 academic, clinical, and industrial partnerships to achieve breakthroughs in genomics, pathogen research, and sustainable energy.

The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a Phoenix-based nonprofit working with collaborators in the scientific and medical communities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of gene research, fighting diseases such as cancer, neurological disorders and diabetes. Dr. Robert Bowser was recruited to the Barrow Neurological Institute and St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center to direct an ALS research center using philanthropic support from Mr. Ira Fulton.   He arrived to the Phoenix area in August of last year after 18 years on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  Dr. Bowser’s research focuses on biomarkers of neurologic disease and he will describe how success in his academic research has also led to success in the world of biotechnology.

Alan Nelson is heading the Predictive Health Analytics Initiative that aims to change the paradigm in healthcare from treating late stage disease to early diagnosis and preventive therapies that are cost-effective. He served as the Executive Director of the Biodesign Institute at ASU and holds professorships in Bioengineering and physics. He is the founder and CEO of three companies, the most recent being VisionGate, the innovator of the LuCED lung cancer early detection test. VisionGate was awarded the start-up of the year award at the recent Governors’ celebration of innovation. Alan has a PhD in Biophysics from Berkeley, holds 66 issued patents, and has published over 100 scholarly papers in biomedical imaging.
